Buying Waking Up (Amazon MP3 Exclusive - Deluxe Version)

If you were hoping for more R&B-inspired songs from their first album like "Say" and "Apologize", then this new album is probably a dream come true. If you're like me and was hoping the group would also add some more traditional alternative/pop-rock like "Stop & Stare", "Mercy", and "All We Are", then you'll probably be scratching your head a bit wondering who this group is, at least initially. Really though, even though I fell into the latter category, once I got over that initial disappointment (like most of you, I've been holding my breath for this album for months), songs like "All the Right Moves", "Secrets", and "Good Life" all grew on me. And taken on its own merits, I think "Waking Up" is a great album, and in hindsight, I'm glad it's not just a carbon copy of "Dreaming Out Loud". I can't wait to see what One Republic does on their third album.

BTW, not trying to move anyone away from One Republic's corner, but if you're a little more into the alternative/pop-rock side of "Dreaming Out Loud", you should check out a band called SafetySuit, if you haven't already done so. I think their album "Life Left To Go" is very much in the same style as "Dreaming Out Loud" and is likewise nothing short of amazing (just be warned that their lyrics are much more sappy than the stuff One Republic puts out).Get more detail about Waking Up (Amazon MP3 Exclusive - Deluxe Version).
