Save Scream

I love this one.
It's a very special song.
It's got a very modern sound but Lita's solo is total old school.
Vocally this song really shines.
Lita's never sounded better.Get more detail about Scream.

Discount Welcome To The Future

Awesome tribute to the struggles and the interesting things that have come along in the name of "progress"! How much progress are we really making though? Really! If Martin Luther, who challenged the catholic church with his 95 Theses nailed to the door of the church on October 31, 1517, could really re-emerge in our world today would he really like all of this? It's been almost 500 years since he courageously took on religious lunacy in the name of the almighty dollar and gave us the fire of the Reformation in the name of the much mightier God of scripture! I am making this song one of my top ten! I love the reminders of how far we have come and yet in the background is the reminder to be careful, for we have so far to go, and it's easy to lose out in the end if we forget where we have come from! Thanks!

Cheap Little Voice

This is a great CD to play when you wanna switch it up every now and then, A "Getaway record" to escape what dominates your music collection, Therefore i'd only play this album occasionally. It's pure elevator music, You may doze off in the middle of one of her songs if you're not into this sound, I "would" call it bland but that would selfish. Let's just say that your "average" person wouldn't play this CD more than once if it were given to them as a gift and they most likely will forget they ever recieved it. The next time they'll ever see this CD again will be the same day their going through old boxes and cleaning out the garage.

Sara Bareilles is not a bad singer and she's also very talented, She writes her own music which is terrific but... I'm... bored...

"One Sweet Love" "City" and "Between The Lines" are the most memorable for me. Again, To call her music bland or distasteful would be unfair. Especially in times like today where many artist are not creative or poetic. So I'll give her that... I'm just not into her. (3) Stars are too much and (1) is misleading so (2) works.Get more detail about Little Voice.

Buying Waking Up (Amazon MP3 Exclusive - Deluxe Version)

If you were hoping for more R&B-inspired songs from their first album like "Say" and "Apologize", then this new album is probably a dream come true. If you're like me and was hoping the group would also add some more traditional alternative/pop-rock like "Stop & Stare", "Mercy", and "All We Are", then you'll probably be scratching your head a bit wondering who this group is, at least initially. Really though, even though I fell into the latter category, once I got over that initial disappointment (like most of you, I've been holding my breath for this album for months), songs like "All the Right Moves", "Secrets", and "Good Life" all grew on me. And taken on its own merits, I think "Waking Up" is a great album, and in hindsight, I'm glad it's not just a carbon copy of "Dreaming Out Loud". I can't wait to see what One Republic does on their third album.

BTW, not trying to move anyone away from One Republic's corner, but if you're a little more into the alternative/pop-rock side of "Dreaming Out Loud", you should check out a band called SafetySuit, if you haven't already done so. I think their album "Life Left To Go" is very much in the same style as "Dreaming Out Loud" and is likewise nothing short of amazing (just be warned that their lyrics are much more sappy than the stuff One Republic puts out).Get more detail about Waking Up (Amazon MP3 Exclusive - Deluxe Version).

Purchase Carol Of The Bells

After reading the somewhat scathing reviews written, I hesitated on downloading this piece. I finally did. No, it is not the traditional Carol of Bells (which I love), but if you look at this piece like a totally different and new piece, you may enjoy it.

I love the rhythm of it which is catchy and enjoyable, regardless of the different take on the carol. There is a certain amount of seriousness to it, in keeping with the original version. I enjoyed the retro electric guitar rifs reminiscent of some of the 50's-60's rock. The traditional carol is a round, very repetitive (but very enjoyable), this one is also repetitive since it IS based on the original so expect that.

I don't think the "preview" clip really does any justice to it as it sounds flat compared to the rest of the piece. Listen to this as a "new" piece and enjoy it for what it is, just don't expect a traditional version...it is not...but I could listen to this several times and enjoy it each time. Nice recording and different from all the versions out there that are much too similar to each other. I'm glad I downloaded it and have included it in my Christmas repertoire.Get more detail about Carol Of The Bells.

Where To Buy [500] Days Of Summer - Music From The Motion Picture

This soundtrack is wonderful regardless if it's heard in respect to the movie, or just as a pick up wondering through the aisles of music. I give this album four stars instead of five simply for the fact that the Pixies version of "Here Comes Your Man" is replaced by a slower, quirky version by Meghan Smith. Overall, the album is a good listen to, a pick me up on the ride to work, or something to just have in the background to unwind on. I cannot recommend this soundtrack more.Get more detail about [500] Days Of Summer - Music From The Motion Picture.

Shop For Motel Blues

This new recording of "Motel Blues," and all of the songs on the CD Recovery, are a pleasure to listen to. Longtime fans of Loudon Wainwright III will enjoy the solid reworking of these classics. A new fan can appreciate both the great young talent who created these tunes, and the mature musician who is revisiting them from a very different perspective. The label "entertainer" is perfect for this eminently talented and insightful singer-songwriter. Get more detail about Motel Blues.

Consider Me Gone Top Quality

"Consider Me Gone" is definitely a song worth listening to. It's a great song about love and commitment. With a name like that, you would think it would be more like one of Reba's Famous Ballads, but the song is tough and to the point. It's a song I would expect someone like Carrie Underwood to sing.

I'm loving Reba's new music. Get more detail about Consider Me Gone.

Saddle Creek sampler 2008-2009 This instant

Well, I didn't find the other reviews all that helpful, so let me give it a try. However, I doubt I'll be much help - there is little I can think of to compare most of these tracks to. Mostly not my cup of tea, but I shall attempt to describe the tracks so maybe you can decide if it might be your cup of tea.

One advantage of this collection is that if you like a particular band here, you get 2 cuts from them. One disadvantage is that you must take the whole thing to discover what you may enjoy out of it.

The production values are very good - the sounds are clear and well-balanced, occasionally distorted only for artistic effect. Most of the lyrics are clearly understandable (important to me). These are generally far more music than noise, and seem creative - they are varied in style. Many tracks have some swear words "sprinkled in" - unnecessarily in my opinion.

1 & 2 - start off musical and progress to driving & screaming at the end. Lyrics are "explicit" and complaining. Beat medium; vocal quality, guitar/bass/drums quite good. I liked them until about 3/4 through and until I really listened to the lyrics in #2. Rock-ish.

3 & 4 - start off "weird" and become more musical as instruments are added. Breathy, repetitive lyrics against more lyrical instruments that do some "experimental" things - almost like the lyrics serve the percussion function. Trance-ish.

5 & 6 - sort of remind me of my less favorite Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd tracks - the busy guitar licks and driving bass - but interspersed with breathy, high female vocals (#5) or pleasant male vocals (#6) and a more dreamy musical line. However, the transitions seemed to not make much musical sense. #6 is the first track I thought was decent enough to maybe keep - but perhaps my musical tastes are a bit too "rigid" - I prefer more melody and structure, I guess.

#7 & 8 - driving metallic guitar and busy bass & drums. Vocals good - a bit angry. Heavy-metal-ish (but not quite that heavy). #8 a bit more melodic than #7. I liked these 2 a bit more than 1-6. Hard-rock-ish.

#9 & 10 - harmonizing male vocals, slow rhythm, dreamy nicely reverbed guitar. Reminds me somewhat of the early Led Zeppelin I liked better than the later. Well-done juxtaposition of dreamy against more intense musical bridges. These I actually liked quite a bit. These tracks have made me more patient to await the rest of the downloads.

#11 - female vocals - medium rock with a slight country or folk flavor (her "accent" maybe). Clear rhythmic melody. Vocals a bit harder to understand. Musically coherent throughout. I liked it.

Well, that's as far as my downloads have gotten after about 8 hours (I'm on dial-up). I'll edit to add more after I get the rest of the tracks, if I do. As my reactions progressed along the selections from pretty-much-stinks to hey-not-bad to pretty-decent, maybe track 18 will be awesome-great...

ADDED LATER... Well, we never achieved awesome-great, but in the end I deleted 1-5 and kept tracks 6-18 with 3 stars (not bad) on 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 14, 16, and 4 stars (good) on 9, 12, 13, 15, 17, 18.

#12 - female vocals rather hard to understand (is she saying "how to die"?). Catchy guitar riff 'hook'. Fast and driving. Sort of punk-ish and 60's-ish at the same time. Good internal variety. I liked the tune enough to forgive the vocals and the somewhat distorted sound.

#13 & 14 - clear, emotive, melodic male vocals. Strong percussion/bass, medium-fast. A bit buzzy/reverby (70s-ish) guitar and keyboards. Simple melodic lines with enough variety. Rock 'ballads'. I liked them.

#15 & 16 - Male harmonizing vocals, clear and front and center (sort of Simon & Garfunkel-ish, though I suspect backup is the same singer) plus electric keyboard, rhythm guitar, drums. Clear, clean sound. Medium slow. Some added production interest (echoes, reverb). Mellow, lyrical, introspective.

#17 & 18 - Strong percussion, buzzy keyboards and guitar, clear melodic male vocals. Repetitive lyrical melody. Medium-fast and interesting.

Altogether - probably something here for you - a good variety. Overall a 3.5 stars, I guess.Get more detail about Saddle Creek sampler 2008-2009.

Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart Best Quality

There is honestly no question the feeling that when Alicia Keys does come out with a great song, it absolutely shows better with age and rhythm. That has definitely shown with all the songs she has summed up with her career this decade, with each song from No One, to Karma and all the way back to the vibe from Fallin', Alicia has known to make a great song shine. That also is shown well with the songs from her upcoming album, The Element Of Freedom, and her second single, Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart. The rhythmic style is definitely classic Alicia, all in mind. The song really is good, and definitely shows that unlike Mariah Carey or Beyonce', that Alicia has honestly lost lust her luster when it comes to crafting strong songs. I definitely hope her upcoming album really shines well, because she really has the craft that makes it worth it, just as this song showed.

Discount Deep Elm Records - Sampler No. 7 "Defending The Kingdom"

After finding so much great music from Deep Elm's No.8 "Bonfire Of Trust" sampler, I was a little disappointed at first with this one, not only because the previews didn't excite me much, but also because after a little research I discovered that there isn't any current music here...many of the bands have left the label or aren't currently active, and the offerings from the groups Free Diamonds, Settlefish, and Small Arms Dealer aren't from their latest albums even though they're still with Deep Elm. The songs here are from 2005, 2006, or 2007 except for The Appleseed Cast's "Reaction", which is from 2001 (they are no longer with Deep Elm). Now, considering this is free, I stopped being picky for just enough time to realize that most of these songs aren't half bad, and some are just plain super.

To my surprise, even with the variety and different production teams, this sampler has a very good flow to it, mainly because the styles of most of the bands are similar. There's a lot more here than "screamo" punk however, which was a misguided first impression. Yes, there are many sections of songs with loose, ragged, slightly out-of-tune vocals, but the screaming is more on the "I'm passionate about my music" side than that of heavy metal's style of screaming (not that those bands aren't passionate about their music).

Some highlights: "The Greatest" starts off with a nice, ambient vibe, and the driving guitars and great drumming back up a trance-like melody based on a 3 note repeating section. "Paint Your Target" starts off with a clean guitar intro, then a huge scream, and the power, excellent musicianship and Alex Westaway's edgy but extremely melodic vocal lines make this my favorite overall song (even with a section of heavy screaming).

I mention the screaming so much because I've never been a big fan of any music that has it, but the songs here that have it actually have opened my mind a little more about the positive impact it can have on a rock song when tastefully done.

At first I thought "The World Is Going To Hell" was an instrumental, because it takes almost 2 minutes before vocals come in. But this song has it all...atmospheric guitar parts, power with a shouting single note vocal chorus, clean, melodic, softer breaks with the lyric "You're All Apart Of The Scenery To Me". Very nice.

The faster or more classic style punk songs include "Water Manes At The Block's End", and "Video Games...", by Latterman, "It Was Bliss" by Settlefish, and "Scumbagsville, CT" by Small Arms Dealer. "Morals And Dogma has some grunge characteristics to it, and "Anky Fremp" by Flanders is more straightforward rock (not like the Flanders of today, with its House/Electronica Dance style). A couple of tunes are more laid-back, like "Assisted Living", with its reserved vocals, strings, guitar picking and gymnasium drums, and the piano-based "Last Night's Floor". The bass guitar-driven "Blind Boys" is one song I felt didn't have the same vibe as the rest of these songs, and I'm not sure I like the vocals even though they are definitely unique. "Sunshine In A Shot Glass" has a southern Americana vibe and includes organ and steel guitar and a soaring chorus...definitely one of the highlights here. "Crush So Sweet" is a very good emo tune.

If you're a fan of alternative rock or punk rock, I wouldn't give up on this just by the previews. And it's a plus that you can download these songs individually rather than having to download it as an entire album...even though it's good enough that I recommend you do.

Buying In Christ

This song is taken from Philippians 4:13 and says that we can do all things in Christ.

The instrumentation is a little crowded, but it still has a catchy tune, making it a positive song.

I'm usually not a big fan of Big Daddy Weave because some of their music is a little too rock-oriented, but as I said, this song has a catchy tune and a good, positive message. Get more detail about In Christ.
